Rani Adena Goodgame

March 21, 1975 - October 2, 1993

You may or may not know that several years ago we suffered the loss of a very beloved child.  She was a granddaughter, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, and above all a caring and loving friend.  This beautiful young woman was taken from our family too early at the very young age of 18 and left all who knew her devastated.  On the right is a story, told by Rani, of the events that tore her from our lives.

We received a letter from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice notifying us that parole has been denied for Fidel Marquez and that his next approximate review date has been set for 01/01/2013.

Please read the letter and forward it to anyone who would be interested to know the outcome.

Fifteen years ago, in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 2, 1993, I, Rani Adena Goodgame found myself in the wrong place at the wrong time.  After spending the evening with some friends, I returned to a house to drop off an item left in my car, only to find myself right in the middle of a gang retaliation drive-by shooting.  A pick-up truck full of fractioning La Raza gang members drove past the house I was parked in front of wielding semi-automatic weapons. With no thought or care for their actions they opened fire on the house, riddling it, and my car, with bullets.  The result of their savage actions. . . one girl wounded (who would later recover), and me. . . dead.

Unlike some gang activity that goes unsolved, the police knew very well who the people were behind this shooting.  As months would pass, several men would be taken in to custody and eventually two would be charged with my murder, and the attempted capital murder of the other young girl.

Hector Xavier Gomez was the first of the two men to be sentenced to 45 years with the eligibility of parole. His first parole review is currently scheduled for October 13, 2016.

The second, Fidel Marquez, was sentenced to a mere 28 years, for both offenses, to run concurrently, again with the eligibility of parole.

Almost 14 years after his sentencing date, Fidel Marquez is coming up for parole.  My family is in need of your help to keep this evil animal behind bars as long as possible.  They are asking close friends and family, as well as anyone willing to lend their support, to write personal letters to the parole board asking them to keep one of the men responsible for my murder in jail as long as possible. If you feel you did not know me or my family well enough to write a letter, but would still like to offer your support, please download and sign the petition. If you can please forward a copy of it on to anyone you know who you think would be willing to lend their support, whether or not they knew me or my family, please feel free to do so. The more people who respond, the better the chance parole will be denied.

In writing these letters and the petition to present to the parole board, my family is requesting the maximum of a 5-year set-off, asking the board to deny Marquez's parole and not allow him to come up for review again for 5 more years. I hope, as do my family and friends, the board will agree this man does not deserve to return to society to continue perpetrating his evils on innocent bystanders.

Please help my family keep this man in jail.

You will find all the information you need on how to write a letter to the board, what to include in it, as well as links to stories about the shooting in The Houston Chronicle throughout this site.

If you would like to send a message to my family, or if you have any questions, or even want to send them a copy of the letter you write to the parole board, I know they would love to hear from you and would appreciate your support. Please see the Contact Us page for their information, as well as the address and contact information of where to send the petitions and letters.

Thank you for helping keep one of my killers in jail where he belongs. I know my family thanks you too.
